Diamond Price Today & Per-Carat Calculator

There is no single daily diamond rate. See how the 4Cs set the price and get an indicative per-carat range.

There is no single daily diamond price the way there is for gold or silver — unlike bullion, no two diamonds are identical. A stone’s value comes from its 4Cs (Carat, Cut, Colour, Clarity), its finish, fluorescence and certifying lab, and whether it is natural or lab-grown. Set the exact specification below for an instant indicative price — entirely on MoneyPuran.

Diamond price estimator

This computes a price estimate from typical trade pricing patterns for the specification you choose — it is not a listing search, and no two real stones price identically. Get an actual quote against a lab certificate before buying.

How diamond pricing actually works

  • Price per carat rises with size — non-linearly. A 2-carat diamond of the same quality costs well over twice a 1-carat stone, because larger rough stones are rarer. That’s why the estimator doesn’t just multiply a flat rate by carat weight.
  • Clarity and colour matter more than most buyers expect. Two stones of the same carat weight can differ in price by 5-10x depending on where they sit on these two scales.
  • Natural vs lab-grown is now the biggest price split of all. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically identical to natural ones but wholesale prices have fallen sharply as production scaled up — they now typically sell for a fraction of an equivalent natural stone.
  • Round costs more than fancy shapes of the same carat and grade, because a round brilliant wastes more of the rough stone in cutting — scarcity of the finished shape, not extra beauty, drives the premium.
  • Retail markup is real. Jewellery-store prices for a mounted diamond are typically well above wholesale/trade figures, covering the setting, brand and margin.
  • Certification is non-negotiable. Only buy a diamond with an independent lab certificate confirming the 4Cs you’re paying for — GIA and AGS are the most consistently trusted in the trade.

Natural vs lab-grown: the price gap

Lab-grown diamonds are real diamonds — same carbon crystal structure, graded on the same 4C scale — grown in weeks rather than formed over billions of years. Because supply can scale with demand, wholesale prices have fallen every year for the last several years and now sit well below natural stones of comparable grade. Certificates are required to disclose growth method, so always check whether a stone is natural or lab-grown before comparing prices.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a daily diamond rate like gold?

No. Diamonds aren’t a fungible commodity - no two stones are identical - so there is no single spot price. The diamond trade uses its own weekly benchmark price list, organised by carat, colour and clarity, as a reference point rather than a fixed rate.

How much is a 1 carat diamond in India?

It depends entirely on the 4Cs: a 1-carat natural diamond can range from roughly $1,500 to over $18,000 wholesale depending on colour and clarity, before retail markup, GST and making charges. Use the estimator above with your certificate’s actual grades.

Are diamonds a good investment?

Generally no, for retail buyers. Diamonds carry a large retail markup on the way in and there is no efficient resale market for individual polished stones, unlike gold. Buy a diamond for what it is - jewellery - not as a financial asset.

Natural vs lab-grown - which should I buy?

Both are real diamonds. Lab-grown costs a fraction of natural for the same look and grade, which is why it has grown quickly in engagement rings. Natural diamonds hold whatever resale and rarity value the market assigns them; lab-grown resale value is minimal since new supply is unlimited. It is a personal and budget choice, not a right-or-wrong one.

Does the grading lab affect the price?

Yes. GIA and AGS certificates are the most consistently trusted in the trade and command the strongest resale confidence. Reports from other labs can grade more generously for the same physical stone, so two "VS1" stones from different labs aren’t always equivalent - factor the lab into any comparison.

Typical published trade ranges for a well-cut round brilliant at 1 carat (natural: broadly aligned with the diamond trade's weekly benchmark price list; lab-grown: current retail/wholesale reporting).
