CIBIL Score Check & Estimator

Check your CIBIL score for free, understand what a good score is, and use the estimator to see where you stand.

Your CIBIL score is a 3-digit number from 300 to 900 that lenders in India use to decide whether to approve a loan or credit card and at what interest rate. A score of 750+ is generally treated as very good.

About an official credit bureau score
  • A verified bureau score is issued only by a licensed credit bureau, after confirming your identity with your PAN and an OTP — that verification step is what makes it official, and it isn’t something any website can skip.
  • Most banks and payment apps also surface your bureau score for free as part of their own dashboards.
  • Checking your own score is a soft enquiry and does not lower it. Only a lender pulling your report for a loan application (a hard enquiry) has a small, temporary effect.

Estimate your score

This is a rough educational estimate from five self-reported factors — not your actual CIBIL score. Use it to see where you stand and what to work on.

What affects your CIBIL score

FactorRough weightWhat it means
Payment history~35%Paying every EMI and card bill in full and on time is the single biggest lever. One 90-day miss can cost 50–100 points.
Credit utilisation~30%Keep total card balances under ~30% of your combined limit. High utilisation signals stress even if you pay on time.
Age of credit~15%A longer history helps. Don’t close your oldest card just because you don’t use it much.
Credit mix~10%Handling both secured (home/auto/personal loan) and unsecured (cards) credit responsibly is a small plus.
New enquiries~10%Several loan or card applications in a short window look like credit-hungry behaviour. Space them out.

How to improve your CIBIL score

  • Set up auto-pay for at least the minimum on every card and loan so you never miss a due date.
  • Pay down card balances to below 30% of the limit — or ask your bank for a limit increase (and don’t spend it).
  • Don’t close old cards. Keeping them open lengthens your history and lowers utilisation.
  • Check your report for errors — a wrongly reported default or a loan you never took. Raise a dispute with CIBIL to get it corrected.
  • Space out applications. Apply for new credit only when you need it, and use eligibility checkers that do a soft pull first.
  • Give it time. Genuine improvement shows over 6–12 months of clean repayment; there is no instant fix.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good CIBIL score for a home loan?

Most banks look for 750 or above for the best home-loan rates. Loans are often still possible in the 700–749 range but at a higher rate or with conditions; below 650 approval becomes difficult.

Does checking my own CIBIL score reduce it?

No. Checking your own score is a soft enquiry and has no effect. Only hard enquiries — a lender pulling your full report when you apply for credit — have a small, temporary impact.

How often is the CIBIL score updated?

Lenders report to the bureaus monthly, so your score can change every 30–45 days as new repayment and balance data comes in.

How long does a default stay on my report?

Negative information such as a default, settlement or write-off generally stays on your CIBIL report for up to 7 years from the date it was reported, then drops off.

Is CIBIL score the same as credit score?

CIBIL (TransUnion CIBIL) is one of four RBI-licensed credit bureaus in India, along with Experian, Equifax and CRIF High Mark. Each produces its own score on a 300–900 scale from broadly the same data, so the numbers are usually close but not identical.
